One of the many architecture details to love about mcm homes are the large walls of glass that allow uninterrupted views into the back and side yards.

One drawback of these expansive views is that the trash area is often in plain sight.

In our home, the beautiful landscaping and meditation garden that we had installed off of the primary bedroom was marred by the not small size and hard to ignore colors of the recycling, compost and trash bins.

We initially thought about building a concrete breeze block wall to hide that area. But the expense and time needed for that project was hard to justify.

Our research led us to a selection of metal screens in a variety of designs that fit right in with the style of our modern home.

You can purchase multiple screens if you have a large area to block and you can use them in different configurations as well. (Photo)

You can configure the panels, assemble then screw into your deck or attach to your concrete. Or you can do like we did and not attach it at all. Our screen was in a protected area without wind and was very stable so we never felt like we were going to knock it over if we bumped it.

Privacy Screens from West Elm for mid century homes

Veradek supplies privacy screens to a variety of online sites such as Wayfair, AllModern (owned by Wayfair) West Elm and many more.

For some of these retailers they offer the stands in metal but the panels are in commercial grade plastic. We prefer the look and durability of the metal panels so make sure you check the materials before you purchase.

We liked that West Elm offered a screen in a galvanized steel in matte black finish or in corten steel in a rust finish.  We have also had good luck with West Elm’s customer service and have taken advantage of their sales so we recommend West Elm.

Another resource we found is from a company called Wall Theory. They offer a variety of designs in rust-proof powder-coated aluminum. Note that they sell the posts and brackets separately from the screen.

Hideway Screen offers stock designs but also offer a customized version. Their screens are also aluminum and they sell the posts and brackets separately.

We appreciate that the screen we chose is both good looking and functional. Just like our mcm home.
